Kwara LG elections: Police to impose curfew from midnight to 6:00 pm on Saturday

The Kwara State Police Command has announced that there will be a comprehensive restriction on vehicular movement on Saturday, September 21, 2024, as part of security measures for the Local Government Elections.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, stated that this restriction would be enforced from 12:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the electoral process. He emphasized that this decision is crucial for maintaining peace during the elections.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, in Ilorin on Friday, the Police confirmed that exceptions would be made for individuals involved in essential services, including accredited electoral officials, authorized media personnel, electoral observers, and emergency responders.
The statement also noted that armed security personnel assigned to VIP protection and escort duties would be restricted from accompanying their VIPs to polling stations, further ensuring the integrity of the voting process.
The Command urged all residents to adhere strictly to the movement restrictions and warned that any violation would be met with legal consequences. The statement highlighted that the public’s cooperation is crucial for ensuring a peaceful and orderly election.
