The Kwara State chapter of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied allegations that Muslim corps members are being harassed for wearing sleeves and leggings at the Yikpata orientation camp.
The State Coordinator, Mr. Olaoluwa Onifade, speaking through an NYSC official, described the claims as incorrect, misleading, and a figment of the imagination of those making the allegations.
“All members of the camp community, including corps members, are allowed to practice their faith freely without any form of prejudice or harassment,” Onifade stated.
He emphasized that NYSC camps, including the one in Kwara, are designed to foster unity among Nigerians, irrespective of religion, creed, or faith.
Earlier, reports had surfaced alleging that Muslim corps members at the camp were being harassed for wearing sleeves and leggings as a sign of modesty. Some also claimed that female Muslim corps members had been detained and threatened with the misuse of their state codes.
However, Onifade dismissed the allegations, reiterating that the camp remains a space for inclusivity and mutual respect.
