The Lead Consultant of Daraibo Events Planning Services Limited, Adewoye Oluwaseun, has emphasized that professionally trained event planners ensure that party organizers and other clients get value for their money and enjoy well-coordinated events.

Adewoye highlighted that the concept of event planning is now more widely accepted in society as people recognize the benefits of hiring professionals in the field. He made this assertion during an interview with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday.

“Event planning has become widely accepted. Previously, it was seen as unnecessary, with people often saying, ‘Why do I need an event planner? I’ll just put my cousin in charge of drinks and my sister-in-law in charge of food.’ But they fail to realize that these individuals often prioritize their personal interests over the success of the event.

“As professionals, we focus on delivering quality. For instance, I instruct my team not to focus on what they can take home but to prioritize their work. I even provide them with money for meals to avoid distractions. We also advise our clients to use event centers for better coordination,” he said.

Adewoye noted that in Kwara State, the value of professional event planners is now more appreciated, especially as many people want to avoid the stress associated with organizing events. He also acknowledged the state government’s patronage of professional event planners for official functions.

However, he acknowledged that challenges remain. “Despite growing acceptance, some people still don’t see the need for professional event planners, so we spend time convincing them.

“Many families have an uncle or aunt who claims to know how to coordinate events, but the difference is in professionalism—ensuring value for money spent.

“Another major challenge is financing, given the current economic situation in the country,” he added.

Adewoye urged governments at all levels to support local event planners by engaging their services instead of outsourcing to planners from other areas. He suggested that empowering local planners could boost the industry and create opportunities.

“We have an association of event planners in Kwara, and the government can support us by providing access to jobs and funding. This would empower us and allow us to contribute meaningfully to the local economy,” he said.

Speaking about the challenges in the industry, he noted the rising costs of materials and services.

“The prices of items we use for our work have increased significantly, and vendors are charging higher rates. Meanwhile, clients are reluctant to pay higher fees, which creates a dilemma.

“To deliver quality, we sometimes have to make compromises, ensuring a balance between affordability and excellence.”

Adewoye concluded by expressing gratitude for the growth in the industry, despite the prevailing economic difficulties.

“God has been good to us. Event planning has evolved significantly, but we are not immune to the challenges in the country. Nevertheless, we continue to strive to deliver excellent services,” he said.
