Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the recruitment of 1,800 teachers, 100 non-teaching staff, and 200 security guards to enhance educational standards and ensure a safer school environment across the state.
The recruitment, spearheaded by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), focuses on senior secondary schools, particularly in rural areas where there is a shortage of teachers.
TESCOM Chairman, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, announced that application links would be made available on Friday in Ilorin.
“All applicants must apply online and possess a university bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant subject along with a teaching certificate. Acceptable qualifications include B.Ed., B.Sc. Ed., B.A. Ed., B.Sc. with PGDE, or NCE. Applicants without these qualifications will not be considered,” he stated.
The recruitment aims to address human resource gaps, with priority given to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) teachers. Required subject areas in Arts and Commercial studies will also be specified on the application portal. Applicants whose subject areas are not listed are advised not to apply.
Applicants must upload their local government of origin certificates, indicate their local government of residence, and provide proof at different stages of the process. Additional requirements may be announced during the exercise.
Shortlisted candidates will proceed to a Computer-Based Test (CBT), after which a cutoff mark will be determined. Successful candidates will then be invited for interviews and peer teaching (practicum) at designated venues.
“All shortlisted applicants will undergo drug tests in line with the government’s commitment to fighting drug abuse and protecting schoolchildren. Applicants must also not be older than 35 years as of January 31, 2025.
“Candidates exhibiting behaviors inappropriate for a teacher or role model will be disqualified at any stage of the process,” Abubakar warned.
The TESCOM Chairman commended Governor AbdulRazaq’s dedication to improving public education, reflected in the administration’s clear policies and investments since 2019.
The application portal and further details will be announced soon.
