Kwara to remove illegal buildings close to Asa dam, environs
Kwara State Government is making moves to stop and remove any illegal buildings close to Asa-Dam and its environs to disallow unnecessary risk to human life and property.
The Commissioner for Water Resources Usman Lade disclosed this to intimate and warn the residents of Asa-Dam, Marina, and Lasvager to stop any form of illegal construction close to Asa-Dam River, Marina Estate, and its Environs.
The Commissioner stated this during his unscheduled inspection visit to the area.
Lade said that the building of houses or any form of construction too close to the Dam and Asa River poses a risk to people’s lives aside from being the Government’s property.
Speaking during the visit, the Deputy Director Water Control and Quality Services, Dr Hammed AbdulRahman Babatunde, said that a standard measured distance between the river and any form of building construction must have to be provided in Asa-Dam even if the land is acquired legally.
In his contribution, the Deputy Surveyor General of Geographic Information Services, Afolayan Timothy, said that investigation will be carried out to ascertain the approval of those buildings allegedly constructed illegally on government property.
He said once it is clarified that those land are not approved by the government authourised officers, the necessary action to evict them from the land shall be taken against them.
The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Christiana Omolola Asonibare, said that the state government will not take this issue with levity moreso that it pose a serious danger to human lives.
