Kwara United FC of Ilorin on Saturday clinched the 2025 President Federation Cup at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, securing their first-ever major silverware.
The Harmony Boys, backed by thousands of traveling supporters, including Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, defeated the tournament’s giant killers, Abakaliki FC, 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time.
The Ebonyi-based side held their nerves to keep the NPFL team at bay, thwarting all efforts by Kwara United to seal victory during regular play.
Hoping to replicate their previous penalty shootout successes against Nasarawa United and Ikorodu City, Abakaliki FC dragged the game into spot-kicks. However, luck deserted them as Kwara United triumphed 4-3 in the shootout.

With this historic victory, Kwara United will join Abia Warriors as Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup.
In the women’s category, Rivers Angels emerged champions after a dramatic victory over Nasarawa Amazons.
The thrilling encounter ended 2-2 in regulation time and was settled by a penalty shootout, with Rivers Angels prevailing 4-2.
With this triumph, Rivers Angels reaffirm their status as one of Nigeria’s most successful women’s football clubs, adding yet another prestigious trophy to their illustrious cabinet.
