Labour Party will rescue Nigerians in 2027- Usman
The Chairman of the Labour Party National Caretaker Committee, Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, has said the party would emerge as a platform for all Nigerians who feel disenfranchised or dissatisfied with the current state of affairs.
Usman expressed her commitment to revitalising the party amid its current challenges.
Speaking during the Committee’s inaugural meeting in Abuja, She emphasised the goal of transforming the Labour Party into a viable alternative for the Nigerian populace.
Usman called upon committee members to demonstrate dedication and integrity in their roles, highlighting the importance of their work for both the party and the nation.
“We are on a rescue mission for the Labour Party and our beloved Nigeria. The interest generated by this committee transcends party affiliations, presenting us with a significant responsibility,” she stated.
She assured that, with divine assistance, the Labour Party would emerge as a platform for all Nigerians who feel disenfranchised or dissatisfied with the current state of affairs.
Representing the party’s presidential candidate in 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi, the party’s Vice Presidential candidate, Sen. Datti Baba-Ahmed, said that Labour Party had forewarned Nigerians about potential disasters under the All Progressive Congress (APC) leadership.
He expressed confidence that the Labour Party would build on its successes in the 2023 elections to secure a majority in the National Assembly and win the presidential election 2027.
Baba-Ahmed said “We faced challenges during our transition but managed to navigate them successfully, unlike any other party of our size could have. We are a formidable force in Africa, having fought for our 10 million votes, even if we were officially acknowledged for only 6 million.”
He lamented the nation’s current state, citing the mismanagement of resources, security issues, and rising hunger. He attributed these failures to the careless governance that followed the Labour Party’s electoral victories.
Also, Hon. Ikechukwu Emetu, the deputy governor of Abia State, who represented Governor Alex Otti, urged committee members to focus on the Labour Party’s growth and avoid actions that could harm its interests.
The committee’s secretary, Sen. Darlington Nwokocha, assured that they would diligently work to elect officers at various party levels within their time frame.
“We have already begun this process and are committed to conducting thorough outreach and consultation to ensure that capable leaders are elected from the grassroots up to the national convention,” he concluded.
