LAGESCO, KAI continue clampdown on bridge squatters

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESCO) in conjunction with Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) officials have continued to clear miscreants occupying the pedestrian bridge at PWD, Ikeja.
This was contained in a post alongside videos posted by the State Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via his official X handle on Tuesday.
Wahab added that a total of 17 people using the pedestrian bridges as accommodation, as well as those using the vandalised roofs as beds had been arrested in different locations across Lagos, including at Dopemu, Onilekere, Shogunle and the popular Oshodi.
According to the commissioner, suspects arrested will be prosecuted in accordance with the state’s Environmental Sanitation Protection Law.
His post read: “@LAGESCOfficial (KAI) officials are clearing miscreants occupying the pedestrian bridge at PWD, Ikeja.
“Also, 17 people using the pedestrian bridges as accommodation and using the vandalised roofs as beds were arrested at Dopemu, Onilekere and Shogunle, Oshodi. They will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
In the videos released by the Commissioner, officials of KAI are seen evacuating defaulters and filing them in sitting arrangements on the ground in their premises, as they await trial.
Recall that earlier in February, the government of Lagos State had announced it would move to tackle citizens guilty of indiscrimate pedestrian crossing as well as bridge inhabitation.
