Lagos APC links Hamzat’s leadership journey to Awolowo’s inspiration

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has highlighted Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat’s experience in government, describing it as an important consideration in discussions about the state’s future leadership.

The party’s spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said this in a press statement issued on Thursday, citing Hamzat’s background in engineering and technology and his service as commissioner for Science and Technology, commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, and deputy governor.

Oladejo said Hamzat’s experience had exposed him to key aspects of governance, including infrastructure development, technological innovation, policy implementation and executive coordination.

He argued that Lagos required leadership with a strong understanding of public administration to address its infrastructure needs, population pressures and economic ambitions.

The APC spokesman also referenced a reported encounter between Hamzat and the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo when the deputy governor was 14, describing it as a potential source of inspiration for his interest in public service.

However, he stressed that Hamzat’s legacy would depend on his own achievements rather than his association with the former political leader.

“History is not inherited by association. It is earned through individual effort, conviction, achievement and service,” Oladejo said.

On the Lagos PROMISE Agenda, he identified infrastructure, improved mobility, technological innovation, economic competitiveness, enterprise development and opportunities for young people as key priorities for sustaining the state’s development.

He added that the success of any development agenda would depend on effective implementation and tangible improvements in residents’ lives.
