Lagos APC slams Tambuwal, says Nigeria not in peril

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has faulted comments credited to former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, in which he reportedly said that Nigeria is “in peril and needs urgent salvation.”

In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC described Tambuwal’s remarks as alarmist and lacking moral authority, arguing that they amounted to misplaced outrage from a political actor who previously held key positions of responsibility.

Oladejo said moments of national challenge call for introspection rather than what he described as grandstanding, noting that Nigerians still recall periods when Tambuwal occupied strategic offices and the expectations of leadership that accompanied those roles.

According to the party, instead of offering a candid assessment of his stewardship or acknowledging missed opportunities, the former governor had chosen to criticise the current state of affairs without accepting responsibility for past actions.

The statement also referenced Tambuwal’s recent 60th birthday celebration, which the APC said could have served as an opportunity for sober reflection and accountability.

The Lagos APC maintained that Nigeria’s challenges are the cumulative result of years of leadership failures and policy inertia, stressing that they cannot be attributed solely to the current administration. It accused some political actors now critical of the government of having played significant roles in creating the problems confronting the country.

Reaffirming its support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party said the Renewed Hope Agenda is implementing difficult but necessary reforms aimed at stabilising the economy, strengthening security, and restoring institutional credibility.

The statement urged Tambuwal and other critics to move beyond political rhetoric and instead support reforms capable of advancing national development, adding that genuine concern for Nigeria’s future should be anchored on humility, accountability, and constructive engagement.
