Lagos Assembly begins financial assessment of local governments

The Lagos State House of Assembly has commenced the evaluation of the financial performance of all the 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The evaluation was to ascertain how funds from the Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC) to the councils were spent in accordance with the 2022 budget approval.
WesternPost reports that Kosofe, Agboyi/Ketu, Ikosi-Isheri, Yaba, Lekki, Ibeju Lekki, Imota, Epe, Isolo, Ejigbo, Lagos Island and Itire-Ikate local councils appeared before the House’s Joint Committee on Public Account (Local) and Committee on Local Government Administration in the first phase.




It was gathered that any erring local government chairman may be sanctioned by the House when the reports of findings are submitted before the lawmakers during plenary for further debate and scrutiny.
The joint committee members who assessed the councils financial documents are; Hon. Mojeed Fatai (Chairman Committee on Public Accounts Local), Hon. Olawale AbdulSobur (Chairman Committee on Local Govt. Administration and Community Affairs), Hon. Rotimi Olowo (Chairman, House Committeeon Finance), Hon. Hakeem Sokunle ( Chairman, House Committee on Health), Hon. Saka Solaja (Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, State), Hon. Rauf Age-Sulaiman, Hon. Kehinde Joseph, Hon. Victor Akande, Hon. Mosunmola Sangodara and Hon. Fatai Oluwa.
