Lagos Assembly crisis: Female lawyers thank lawmakers for supporting Meranda, seek resolution to avert danger

Following the tension that trailed removal of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker by 37 members of Lagos State House of Assembly, a group under the aegis of “Women Lawyers In Politics” has called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other well meaning Nigerians to intervene and resolve the crisis amicably in order to avert looming danger.
President of the Group, Barr. Abimbola Badiya Jack, who made the call on Tuesday during a solidarity visit to the Speaker, Rt. (Hon) Mojisola Meranda, said that resolution has become necessary in order to allow peace to reign and forestall the danger signal.
She noted that it is only under a peaceful atmosphere that members of the House led by the first female Speaker could be able to legislate properly.
“As a gender group of Women and Mothers, we are worried about the prevailing crisis over Speakership and the looming signals if not properly handled.
“It could get to a stage when we would not allow our children and husbands not to go out for fear that they may be attacked”, the President declared.
In her remarks, Secretary of the group Omawunmi Ogungiabi, appreciated every member of the House that supported the first female Speaker.
Responding, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Fatai Mojeed said that there was no need for any apprehension as 39 out of 40 members resolved to remove the former Speaker.
He assured the group that the issue would be resolved amicably.
