Lagos Assembly: Elliot, 2 others pledge loyalty to Speaker Meranda

Hon. Desmond Elliot, Hon. Lukmon Olumoh and Hon. Emmanuel Olotu, the three members of the Lagos State House of Assembly who were missing during the impeachment proceedings of the former Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, have pledged their loyalty to the new Speaker of the House, Rt(Hon) Mojisola Meranda.

They pledged their loyalty during the plenary session held in the Assembly Complex on Friday.

The lawmakers apologized for being absent during the impeachment proceedings, saying that they support the impeachment of Obasa.

While speaking, Elliot said he supported the impeachment and urged the lawmakers to include his signature in the list.

Elliot stated that he sought for permission before the day of the impeachment.

Also, Olumoh stated that he was sick and that he was in support of the impeachment.

” I was unavoidable absent because I was sick. My name was on the list but not around to append my signature. I pledge my loyalty to you, Madam Speaker”.

It would be recalled that the House appointed its principal officers and set up a Selection Committee on Friday.

The Principal Officers are Hon. Temitope Adedeji (Ifako Ijaiye 1), Majority Leader, Hon. Sanni Babatunde Okanlawon (Kosofe 2), Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Richard Kasumu (Ikeja 2), Deputy Majority Leader, and Hon. Sentoji David (Badagry 2), Chief Whip.

The Selection Committee is chaired by the Speaker while the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Fatai Mojeed, Majority Leader, Hon. Temitope Adedeji, Hon. Aina Musbau, and Hon. Gbolahon Yishawu are members.

The Acting Clerk is to serve as the Committee Secretary.
