Lagos Assembly frowns at slow pace of Baiyeku Phase 1 road project in Ikorodu

The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure has expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of the Baiyeku Phase 1 road project in Ikorodu.

The committee, led by Hon. Desmond Elliot (Surulere 1) conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the road as part of an inspection tour and oversight function of key infrastructure projects in Ikorodu.

Despite ongoing work, the committee observed that the pace of construction has been disappointing, with residents lamenting the LSPWC’s inability to meet expectations.

The lawmakers lauded the rapid progress of the Phase 2 of the Baiyeku Road project, which began in January. Unlike the first phase, work on this section has moved swiftly, earning praise from the inspection team and the residents.

The inspection team, which includes Hon. Femi Saheed (Kosofe 2) and Hon. Aro Moshood (Ikorodu 2) AMA, commended the company handling the second phase of the Baiyeku Road project.

They expressed confidence in the company’s ability to set a benchmark for quality road construction in the state.

Responding to the company’s pledge, Elliot challenged the company to maintain its momentum and deliver on schedule.

“If you keep to your promise and complete this project within the stipulated timeframe, the House of Assembly will not only be pleased but will also look forward to a more robust business relationship with the construction Company,” he stated.

The lawmakers reiterated their commitment to ensuring that road projects across Lagos are executed efficiently and within stipulated deadlines.

The first phase of the Baiyeku Road project, spanning from Odofin Road to Federal Housing Estate (Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Estate (Formerly known as Fashola Estate) was flagged off by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in July 2022 and was initially scheduled for completion in May 2024.
