Lagos Assembly may probe Obasa

There is indication that the Lagos State House of Assembly may initiate the probe of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa when he returns for plenary, Western Post gathered.
It would be recalled that on January 25, 2025, Obasa was welcomed by his supporters at the Speaker’s lodge in Ikeja GRA where he asked the House to prove the allegations against him.
Obasa who was absent yesterday for the second time in the House of Assembly after his removal, was removed by 32 members out of 40 and replaced with the deputy speaker, Rt (Hon) Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as Speaker.
Western Post had reported that Meranda has assumed the official office of the Speaker in the Assembly Complex on Monday, January 27, 2025, as the lawmakers unanimously reaffirmed their support and loyalty for her when escorting her to the office with songs and prayers.
Meanwhile, the former Speaker during a press conference on Saturday, said he remains the Speaker, saying due process was not followed in his removal.
Reacting to Obasa’s claim, the lawmakers said his removal stands, restating their loyalty to Speaker Meranda.
The lawmakers said over two-third of the members voted for his removal.
They warned Obasa not to heat up the polity, saying that his post-impeachment attitude was “Uncalled for” and “Unparliamentary”.
However, two former Speakers of the House, Rt (Hon) Olorunnibe Mamora and Rt (Hon) Adeyemi Ikuforiji in seperate interviews have said Obasa’s removal was constitutional, saying he was first among equal in the parliament.
