Lagos Assembly passes vote of confidence on Speaker Obasa

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday passed a vote of confidence on Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, affirming their satisfaction with his leadership of the House.

The motion of confidence coincided with the Speaker’s 52nd birthday, during which lawmakers praised his significant contributions to the nation’s democracy through impactful legislation.

Majority Leader Noheem Adams, who moved the motion, expressed full support for the Speaker, stating that Obasa’s decisions have always been made with the consent of fellow lawmakers.

“Every decision the Speaker has taken in the House has been with the full consent of his fellow lawmakers. He consults the members and gets their opinions,” Adams said during plenary, which was presided over by Deputy Speaker Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.

The motion was seconded by Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh (Ajeromi-Ifelodun I) following extensive consultations among the lawmakers. Deputy Majority Leader Adedamola Richard Kasunmu also supported the motion, emphasizing the Assembly’s absolute confidence in Obasa’s leadership.

“We have absolute confidence in his leadership, and there is no better way to show this than to pass a vote of confidence on the Speaker,” Kasunmu said.

The occasion also marked a celebration of Speaker Obasa’s birthday, with lawmakers showering him with praises for his leadership and dedication to public service.

Felicitating with the Speaker, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa 2) wished him a happy birthday on behalf of his constituents, noting his significant impact on governance.

Hon. Nureni Akinsanya praised Obasa for his loyalty, highlighting that the Speaker stands firm by those he believes in, regardless of circumstances. “I pray to Almighty Allah to grant him more wisdom and bless him and his family,” Akinsanya remarked.

Hon. Aro Moshood also conveyed birthday wishes and acknowledged Obasa’s instrumental role in shaping both Lagos and Nigeria.

Other lawmakers joined in congratulating the Speaker, wishing him long life and greater achievements. The House commemorated the occasion by showcasing a video of Obasa’s significant contributions to major laws passed in the Assembly.
