Lagos committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050- LAMATA

The Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, on Tuesday, said the state government is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, and aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.

Akinajo disclosed this when the secretary of Transportation for California, Toks Omishakin led a delegation from the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) to Lagos to initiate discussions on potential collaborations.

She also expressed gratitude for the delegation’s interest and provided a comprehensive overview of Lagos’s ongoing transportation initiatives.

The visit was aimed at establishing a series of conversations focused on key areas of mutual interest.

The discussions also explored potential synergies between California’s expertise and Lagos’s development plans, focusing on sustainable solutions for transportation, energy production, and agricultural practices.

In his address, Secretary Omishakin said his agency is driving a California African partnership, highlighting transportation, technology, energy, and agriculture as key sectors for collaboration.

He also announced plans to bring investors to Lagos by the second quarter of 2025, demonstrating California’s commitment to fostering tangible projects.

The CalSTA delegation was received by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, and her management team.

Other notable attendees included Kome Ajise, Executive Director of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), Alana Sanchez and Giles Giovinazzi from CalSTA, Alex Ford of the Bay Area Council, and Tobi Karim from Sustainable Energy for All, further underscoring the diverse range of expertise involved in the partnership exploration.
