Lagos Film Board reaffirms world-class vision at 5th Stakeholders’ Conference

The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) has hosted its fifth Stakeholders’ Conference, reiterating its commitment to transforming the agency into a world-class regulator and enabler of the creative sector.

Speaking at the event on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, said the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains committed to empowering the Lagos film industry while maintaining a balance between creativity, compliance, and cultural integrity. Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Adebopo Oyekan-Ismaila, she underscored the value of strong partnerships between government and industry practitioners. “Together, we can achieve a harmonious blend of creativity and compliance,” she said.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the LSFVCB, Mrs. Adebukola Agbaminoja, expressed gratitude for the steady support from stakeholders since assuming office. She reaffirmed the agency’s pledge to serve not just as a regulator but as a partner committed to nurturing the industry. “We must evolve into an institution that not only regulates but also supports and empowers, positioning Lagos as the creative capital of Africa,” Agbaminoja said.

She added that the Board aims to foster more co-productions in Lagos and promote globally celebrated Nigerian films rooted in local culture. This year’s conference, themed “Navigating the Future of Film: Balancing Creativity, Compliance, and Cultural Integrity,” featured a series of thought-provoking sessions, including Reimagining Compliance as a Catalyst for Creative Excellence, Addressing the Rise of Violence and Abuse on Film Sets, and Digital Citizenship and Online Etiquette*.

A panel discussion moderated by filmmaker Victor Okhai explored the impact of streaming platforms on traditional distribution models and examined the evolving role of the film market, with contributions from industry experts Chioma Ude, Moses Babatope, and Uche Agbo.

The conference also showcased Lagos’ cultural vibrancy through dance and drama performances by the LSFVCB troupe and the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture.

Participants commended the Lagos State Government for its sustained support of the creative industry and called for deeper collaboration to drive growth.
