Lagos Fire Service quells tanker fire at Oredola bridge, begins safety operations

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has extinguished a fire involving a 33,000-litre petroleum tanker at Otedola Bridge, Lagos.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Service’s Controller General, Mrs Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, said the agency received a distress call at 16:09 hours reporting a fire involving a tanker conveying petroleum products from a depot.

According to the statement, the tanker reportedly fell between the inward and outward sections of Otedola Bridge, triggering the fire.

“Upon receipt of the distress call, firefighters from the Alausa and Ikeja Fire Stations were immediately mobilised to the scene. The responding teams arrived at 16:16 hours and commenced firefighting operations.

“Through the prompt and coordinated intervention of the firefighters, the fire was successfully extinguished. Damping-down operations are ongoing to eliminate residual hotspots and prevent possible re-ignition.

“Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident, its cause, and any casualties or property damage will be communicated as verified information becomes available,” the statement read.

Adeseye reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt and effective emergency response.

She also urged motorists to exercise caution around emergency scenes and comply with safety instructions issued by emergency responders.
