The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has indefinitely shut its Ejigbo Fire Station following alleged attacks on firefighters, raising concerns over the safety of emergency responders.
The Service said firefighters on duty were allegedly attacked on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, prompting a report to the Ejigbo Police Station. The assailants reportedly returned on Friday and attacked personnel again, disrupting operations despite police intervention.
The Controller General of the Service, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, condemned the attacks, warning that violence against emergency responders could undermine operational readiness, delay emergency interventions and endanger residents.

She said the station would remain closed until the security concerns were satisfactorily resolved. Personnel and firefighting equipment have been temporarily redeployed to an undisclosed location, while emergency response coverage in the affected area will be maintained.

Adeseye called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation and ensure that anyone found responsible faces appropriate legal action.
The Service urged residents to respect firefighters and other emergency personnel, stressing that they must be allowed to carry out their duties without intimidation or obstruction.
