Lagos, five other South West states Govs. sign N6.25trn 2025 budget into law

The governor of Lagos and five other South Western states in Nigeria have signed a total of N6.25trillion 2025 budget into law, according to an independent investigation by WESTERN POST.

The other states are: Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, and Ogun.

The N6.24 trillion signed 2025 budget by these States is about 13 per cent proportion when compared to Federal Government’s N47.9 trillion proposed 2025 budget.

As gathered by WESTERN POST, Lagos state followed by Ogun state signed the highest budget with Ekiti state governor, Mr. Abiodun Oyebanji signing into law the lowest budget in 2025.

Lagos State’s N3.005trn 2025 budget

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has signed the state’s 2025 budget, valued at N3.005 trillion, into law. Tagged the “Budget of Sustainability,” it seeks to focus on capital projects aimed at economic growth and development.

A breakdown of the budget shows that N1.7 trillion was proposed for the Capital budget while N1.2 trillion was set aside in the budget before the lawmakers for the recurrent budget in the coming year.

Total revenue comprises our Internally Generated Revenue of N1.97 trillion, and total Federal Transfers of N626.14 billion.

Focus Areas: Infrastructure development, including roads and housing.; enhancing transportation systems, such as the Lagos Rail Mass Transit and waterways; investment in technology, innovation, and youth empowerment programs and improvements in public health systems and educational facilities.

This ambitious budget aligns with Lagos State’s drive to cement its status as Nigeria’s economic hub and improve living standards for its residents.

Ogun State’s N1.054 trillion 2025 budget

Ogun State’s proposed budget for 2025 is N1.055 trillion, termed the “Budget of Hope and Prosperity.” It allocates N453.56 billion for recurrent expenditure and N600.98 billion for capital expenditure.

Key sectoral allocations include: Education: N177.835 billion (17per cent), Health: N134.538 billion (13perr cent);  and  Infrastructure N284.4 billion (27per cent).

Others are: Housing & Community Development: N66.382 billion (six per cent), Agriculture & Industry: N65.38 billion (six per cent); Recreation, Culture, and Religion: N25.27 billion (two per cent).

Governor Dapo Abiodun highlighted that the budget aligns with the state’s 2021-2025 Economic Development Plan, aiming for fiscal sustainability, human development, and industrialization, with a focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The plan prioritizes areas such as healthcare, education, youth empowerment, job creation, and food security​

Gov. Aiyedatiwa signs N698bn Ondo 2025 budget into law

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill into law. This according to him was to redefine the trajectory of Ondo State’s development. The N698.659 billion budget christened the “Budget of Recovery,” is structured to prioritise capital development, with a substantial allocation of N433.622 billion (62.06per cent) to capital expenditure, while N265.037 billion (37.94per cent) is earmarked for recurrent spending.

Aiyedatiwa underscored the budget’s strategic focus on economic rejuvenation and infrastructural renewal, declaring it a significant step towards fulfilling his administration’s campaign promises.

Gov. Makinde signs N684 billion 2025 budget into law

Oyo State Governor, Engr.  Seyi Mankinde signed the state’s 2025 Appropriation Bill into Law.

The budget tagged “Budget of Stabilisation”, has a total expenditure of N684.15 billion with a capital expenditure of N344.96billion and a recurrent expenditure of recurrent expenditure of N339.19 billion

the approved budget is about N6 billion higher than the N678 billion in the proposal the governor presented to the legislative arm in November.

The governor presented a total expenditure estimate of N678.09, with 51per cent allocated to capital expenditure and 49per cent to recurrent expenditure.

According to the proposed budget, infrastructure development received the highest allocation, N152.27 billion, representing 22.46per cent of the total budget estimate.

Governor Makinde proposed an allocation of N145.35 billion to the education sector representing the second-highest appropriation (21.44per cent of the total estimate).

“Health and Agriculture, at N59.4 billion and N18.76 billion account for about nine per cent and three per cent of the Budget, respectively. We strongly believe this budget will live up to its name as the economic stabilisation supporting our Oyo State Roadmap for Sustainable Development 2023-2027,”the governor said.

Gov. Adeleke’s N427.7bn 2025 budget

Governor Ademola Adeleke has assured Osun people that the newly signed budget 2025 will be rigorously implemented for the benefit of Osun people.

The state governor who said the budget, tagged “Budget of Sustainable Growth and Transformation” is the total sum of N427.75 billion.

The Governor directed Ministries, Agencies and Departments to vigorously pursue the implementation for the benefit of the citizens of the state, stating that “Our budget performance must continue to be commendable on a quarterly basis.

“I further direct the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development to as usual monitor the implementation process for delivery according to targets and expectations”, he stated.

He assured Osun people that the budget will be rigorously implemented to deliver on public expectations, adding that “The Appropriation Act will be our faithful instrument to deliver on the five point agenda for good governance.

He commended the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development for upholding professionalism all the way even as he appreciated the House Speaker and other members of the State Assembly.

“The Executive arm looks towards oversight activities by the lawmakers. I urge members of the State Executive Council to cooperate with the lawmakers in the exercise of their mandate during the 2025 budgetary year”, he noted.

Gov. Oyebanji signs N375.7bn 2025 budget into law

Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji signed the 2025 Appropriation bill of N375.7 billion, tagged “Budget of Sustainable Impact,” into law following its passage by the State House of Assembly.

Governor Oyebanji had presented the appropriation bill to the state House of Assembly on October 29th 2024 with the assurance that his government was making a concerted effort to bridge the infrastructure deficit, ensure food security, wealth creation, and welfare of the people, enhance productivity of the people and the economy as well as create the enabling environment for investors to increase the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The Governor highlighted his top priority agenda for 2025 to include agriculture and food security, wealth creation, and infrastructural development, adding that the document would allow his administration to consolidate on the achievements recorded so far, and complete all ongoing projects as well as provide the required infrastructure for the economic transformation of the state at large.

“The 2025 budget christened ‘Budget of Sustainable Impact’ has a size of N375.79billion. it is noteworthy that the budget, which is a product of wide consultation with the people of Ekiti state was prepared based on our expected economic reality over the next one year. It also align with fiscal discipline, fiscal principle of transparency, accountability and inclusivity.
