Lagos hosts economic roundtable, reaffirms commitment to inclusive, resilient growth

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday reaffirmed its commitment to building an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable economy as it hosted the third edition of the Economic Roundtable Discourse in Ikeja.
The event, organised by the Economic Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, brought together senior government officials, private sector leaders, academics, and development partners.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Ope George, delivering the keynote address, said Lagos remains committed to data-driven, future-focused policies as it prepares for the 2026 fiscal cycle.
He highlighted ongoing efforts in urban regeneration, expansion of the creative economy, and the Omi-Eko Revolution aimed at transforming the state’s waterways into a modern transport system.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Olayinka Ojo, described the roundtable as a strategic platform that aligns evidence-based policymaking with long-term development goals, noting that insights from the event would guide the MTEF and the 2026 budget.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Blue Economy, Mr Emmanuel Oluwadamilola, presented on the Omi-Eko Revolution, explaining that expanded water transport would ease congestion, support climate goals, and improve mobility for coastal communities.
Other experts, including Prof. Biodun Adedipe, stressed the need for diversification, innovation, and human capital development, identifying technology, real estate, and financial services as high-growth sectors.
The roundtable concluded with a renewed resolve to position Lagos as a global model for sustainable urban development, economic resilience, and inclusive governance.
