Lagos HSC holds retreat for hospital Quality Improvement Officers

The Lagos State Health Service Commission (HSC) has held a two-day Retreat for its quality improvement officers in all the 30 General Hospitals in the state.
The Retreat, which took place at the Lekki, was organised in conjunction with PharmAccess Foundation, under its Quality Department, SafeCare Healthcare Standards.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, HSC, Dr Ademuyiwa Benjamin Eniayewun, advised the officers to do all necessary to improve Quality generally in their respective Hospital Units.
He spoke on the impact of Quality Improvement on organisational success, adding that it brings about efficiency, patient safety, patient satisfaction, enhanced hospital reputation and trust in the community, as well as financially healthy business.
In his lecture titled: “Deploying Quality Improvement For Strategic Impact and Operational Efficiency”, the Permanent Secretary enjoined the officers to be concerned about “waiting time” and how best to reduce it, adding “Expectation Management is very key in QI; people love to experience a shorter time whenever they come around hospitals for medical attention”.
According to him, QI is in every facet of hospital operations, so officers must constantly seek systematic approaches and functional standards, just as he affirmed that “Quality is everyone’s business”.

In the first lecture of the day, the Project Manager, SafeCare, Mrs. Peggy Imoniovu, advised participants to put on their best every time in terms of quality healthcare provisions.
She said, “The health sector has very little tolerance for error. We must continue to get regulation right, so good health can always be delivered, despite systemic challenges that affect the quality of healthcare delivery in Nigeria”.
