Lagos is building future-ready workforce for digital economy — Commissioner

The Lagos State Government has announced efforts to reposition its tertiary education sector for improved effectiveness and alignment with the demands of the digital economy. This initiative supports the administration’s broader vision for a brighter and more prosperous future for the state.
Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, disclosed this on Thursday during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, where he presented the Ministry’s achievements over the past year.
According to the commissioner, the state has intensified efforts in digital learning, international exchange programmes, and partnerships aimed at modernizing the tertiary education system.
Key accomplishments over the year include:
- Rehabilitation of 30 libraries in secondary schools to promote research and academic development.
- Harmonization of salary structures across state-owned tertiary institutions to enhance staff welfare.
- Ongoing upgrade of the Lagos State University College of Medicine into a standalone University of Medical and Health Sciences to address gaps in healthcare manpower.
Mr. Sule also noted that institutions like Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) have achieved key milestones in staff capacity-building, collaborative research, programme accreditation, and infrastructural growth.
He further highlighted the government’s major investments in:
- Infrastructure development
- Digital literacy and IT
- Innovation-driven learning
- Sports
- Accreditation of academic and professional programmes
“We are committed to building a future-ready workforce by equipping students with the right tools and learning environments to thrive in today’s digital economy,” Mr. Sule said.
