Lagos monarch dethrones 6 chiefs over attendance at LP rally

The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has dethroned six of his chiefs for attending the campaign flag-off of the Labour Party in Apapa, Lagos State, without his consent.

The monarch said the chiefs violated palace protocols and impersonated him at the political event.

The affected chiefs are Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro), Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira), Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere), Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko), and Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere).

The decision followed a palace meeting on Monday, where Oba Oyegbemi expressed disappointment, describing their actions as a breach of their duties.

A statement from the palace read, “Kabiyesi summoned the Bales, Balogun, and the Ojora Council to his ancient palace for clarification. In a tone marked by disappointment and authority, Kabiyesi stated that no chief should act on his behalf without his explicit consent, as they serve to represent him and uphold the traditions of the land.”

The statement added that the monarch’s decisive action underscores his commitment to maintaining order and coherence within the kingdom’s leadership.

Oba Oyegbemi also used the occasion to commend the ongoing development initiatives in Ojora land by the present government and pledged his continued support for the administration.

He reminded all chiefs of their responsibilities and the importance of transparency and collaboration between traditional institutions and political processes.
