Lagos NSCDC command uncovers baby factory in Badagry, rescues 10 children, others

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Lagos State have uncovered a suspected baby factory in Badagry, arresting two suspects and rescuing 28 victims during a coordinated operation.

The development, according to the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, Oluwaseun Abolurin, followed renewed directives by the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for enhanced intelligence-driven operations across the country.

Addressing journalists in Badagry, the State Commandant, Adedotun Keshinro, said the breakthrough was achieved after a three-week surveillance operation by officers in the area.

He explained that the operatives stormed the location at Okuju, Ilado Road, where the illegal facility was discovered during an overnight raid conducted between April 15 and 16.

According to him, the suspects allegedly used a Facebook account to lure pregnant women, promising payments ranging from N500,000 to N1 million in exchange for their babies after delivery.

Meanwhile, a total of 28 victims were rescued from the premises, including 17 heavily pregnant women, one adult male, and 10 children, some of whom were infants.

Preliminary investigations further revealed that one of the victims lost her pregnancy due to the poor and unhealthy conditions at the facility, while several items such as generators, gas cylinders, mobile phones, and household materials were recovered.

The NSCDC commandant condemned the act as inhumane and assured that the suspects and victims have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for further investigation and prosecution.
