Lagos Obas meet to strengthen peace, grassroots governance

The Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs has held its statutory meeting at the Lagos Island Division of the state, with discussions centred on sustaining peace, strengthening grassroots governance, and deepening collaboration with the state government.

The meeting, organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, was presided over by the Permanent Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Babatunde Riliwanu Osuolale Akiolu.

Traditional rulers at the gathering deliberated on measures to further promote peaceful coexistence across Lagos communities and explored ways to effectively communicate government policies and programmes to residents at the grassroots level.

The monarchs also stressed the need to ensure that the dividends of governance are felt across all communities in the state through closer engagement between traditional institutions and government authorities.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote unity, development, peace, and community participation in line with the vision of the Lagos State Government for a Greater Lagos.

Also present at the meeting was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs Kikelomo Bolarinwa, alongside other management staff of the ministry.
