Lagos, Ogun, Oyo make NIN Top 5, as total enrolments hit 92.6m

…Ekiti among bottom 3 states
Three South West states are among the Top 10 enrolments for the National Identification Number, a data released by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has said.
The data showed the total number of enrolments across the country ending November 28, 2022.
According to the data which was seen by WesternPost, Lagos tops the total enrolment in the country with 10,327,095 followed by Kano which has 8,099,812 enrollments. Kaduna came third with 5,467,339 enrolments ahead of Ogun and Oyo states in fourth and fifth respectively with 3,864,810 and 3,684,088 total enrolments.
The Federal Capital Territory, Katsina, Rivers, Delta and Bauchi states make up the top 10 with 3,239,205, 3,184,804, 2,794,963, 2,484,030 and 2,456,339 total enrolments.
The other South West states, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti recorded 1,898,317, 1,806,818 and 971,712 enrolments each to place 22nd, 24th and 35th positions respectively.
Aside from Ekiti, other states in the bottom 10 are: Zamfara, 28th (1,607,778); Akwa Ibom 29th (1,585,924); Imo, 30th (1,556,298), Enugu, 31st (1,506,525); Yobe, 32nd (1,394,946); Taraba, 33rd (1,349,728); Cross River, 34th (1,054,558); Ebonyi, 36th (744,869); Bayelsa, 37th (583,323).
According to the data, a total of 92,630,323 Nigerians had enrolled for the NIN as of November 28, 2022, with 1,947,369 new people enrolling since October 25, 2022 when the total number of enrollments stood at 90,682,954.
The data also revealed that 300,175 Nigerians in diaspora had enrolled for the NIN.
More men, 52,106,460 (56.25%) enroled for the NIN more than women which had 40,523,863 (43.75%).
Established by the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007, the NIMC has the mandate to establish, own, operate, maintain and manage the National Identity Database in Nigeria, register persons covered by the Act, assign a Unique National Identification Number (NIN) and issue General Multi-Purpose Cards (GMPC) to those who are citizens of Nigeria as well as others legally residing within the country.
Recently, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami announced that it was mandatory for all Nigerians with mobile phones to have their mobile phone numbers linked to their NIN numbers.
Nigerians who are applying for or renewing their international passports are also expected to have their NIN, while students registering for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) are also expected to enrol for the NIN.
