Lagos partners Black Market team on 50,000-capacity movie premiere

The Lagos State Government has assured the team behind the forthcoming Black Market movie premiere of its partnership and support for the event, scheduled to hold at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island, on September 26, 2026.
The film’s team, led by Producer Nora Awolowo, Co-Producer/Executive Producer Omowunmi Dada and Event Producer Damilola Osikoya, paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, on Thursday to seek the ministry’s partnership and support for the premiere.
The meeting focused on plans for the event, which organisers said is expected to attract about 50,000 spectators, with the ambition of setting a Guinness World Records record for the largest audience at a movie screening.
Benson-Awoyinka assured the team of the ministry’s support, saying the initiative aligns with the state government’s commitment to nurturing young talents, creating opportunities for creatives and strengthening Lagos’ entertainment and creative economy.
“Lagos remains Nigeria’s leading hub for entertainment and creativity. We are committed to supporting initiatives that showcase our people’s talents, attract visitors and further strengthen the state’s position as a preferred destination for tourism, arts, culture and entertainment,” she said.
She added that supporting young creatives was consistent with the THEMES Plus Development Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, particularly its focus on innovation, youth empowerment and the development of the creative economy.
The commissioner urged the Black Market team to maintain high standards and ensure that the premiere is professionally delivered in line with global best practices. She also advised the organisers to engage relevant state ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to secure the necessary support and approvals for the event.
The permanent secretary of the ministry, Mrs Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, who was also present, reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to support initiatives that contribute to the growth and promotion of Lagos’ creative and entertainment sector.
