Lagos partners CCECC for Lekki-Epe Link Bridge construction

The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step toward improving its infrastructure by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for the construction of the Lekki-Epe Link Bridge.

This development was announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is currently attending the China-Africa Cooperation Summit, taking place from September 4-6.

Governor Sanwo-Olu shared the news via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, highlighting that the bridge project is a key component of Lagos State’s strategic transport master plan. This plan is aimed at enhancing road networks, reducing traffic congestion, improving commuting efficiency, and fostering economic growth across the state.

“We believe that good roads and transport infrastructure are essential for the growth of Lagos State,” Sanwo-Olu stated. “This MoU with CCECC to build the Lekki-Epe Link Bridge is part of our commitment to creating a seamless commuting experience and supporting economic development.”

The Governor also revealed that discussions are ongoing to award the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract to CCECC. With feasibility and design studies for the bridge already completed, the project is moving steadily toward implementation.

In a related development, the Lagos State Government has also signed another MoU to implement solar power systems across several key tertiary institutions, including Lagos State University (LASU) and its campuses, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine. The signing of this MoU was witnessed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighting the significance of the initiative.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the impact of this solar power project, noting that it is expected to generate around 50 MW of clean and affordable electricity.

This initiative, he added, reflects the state government’s strong commitment to sustainable energy as a critical element of its broader economic development strategy.
