Lagos PDP commiserates with victims of Apongbon fire incident

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has commiserated with victims of the fire incident at Apogbon market on Lagos Island.

In a statement issued by the state Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, the party said it wondered why the state government has not deemed it fit to take proactive actions such as installing fire detectors and fire breakers in all markets in Lagos.

“Recall that the Lagos State government had reported that 113 persons and property worth over N24.69 billion were lost to fire incidents in Lagos State last year. The Lagos PDP therefore wonders why the APC led Lagos State government has not deemed it fit to take proactive actions such as installing fire detectors and fire breakers in all markets in Lagos.

“The Lagos PDP calls the APC- led government to take the business of governance seriously by judiciously using tax payers money to train and equip men of the fire service in taking proactive measures to forestall future occurrence.

“The Lagos PDP equally calls on the Lagos State Ministry of Works to quickly move to work by conducting integrity test on Eko Bridge, adjoining bridges and properties around Apogbon bridge so as to ascertain the level of damage caused by the fire incident.

“The Lagos PDP shows solidarity with Lagosians knowing fully well the attendant traffic gridlock and sufferings that will follow in the days to come as a result of this avoidable fire incident,” Amode said.
