Lagos PDP may pick Funke Akindele as deputy governorship candidate

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State may have settled for popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele (Jenifa) as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections.

Sources within the party said that the choice of Akindele had the backing of the party’s elders in the state and that it was for gender balancing.

The sources who confided in our Correspondent said that she was recommended by some bigwigs who were of Ikorodu extraction in the state.

“She is from Ikorodu and Lagos East Senatorial District like the APC deputy governorship candidate. Akindele is also from the royal family in ikorodu. Her mother is the immediate younger sister of the current Ayangbunren of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty Kabiru Shotobi, same parents,” said the sources.

WesternPost reports that all political parties have till July 15 to submit names of their deputy governorship candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
