Lagos Police arrest two suspected robbers, recover weapons

In response to a distress call, the Lagos State Police have arrested two suspects and recovered a significant cache of weapons in Mushin.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the tactical team based in Surulere responded to a call at around 1 a.m. regarding the presence of armed men on Agoro Street, Mushin. The team arrested Sherrif Mustapha, 42, and Suturat Lateef, 28, while another suspect managed to escape.
Following the arrest, the suspects led the police to 1, Moshalashi Street, Mushin, where the police recovered the following items:
- Two AK-47 rifles
- One K2 assault rifle
- One Red Rufer rifle
- Three pump-action rifles
- Two locally made single-barrel pistols
- Five magazines
- Fifty-seven live cartridges
- Seventy 5.56 live ammunition rounds
- Twenty-seven 9mm ammunition rounds
- One expended 5.56 ammunition round
- One dagger
- Three walkie-talkies
- Nine international passports

In his statement, SP Hundeyin thanked Lagos residents for their timely information and emphasized the importance of community involvement in overcoming insecurity. “Thank you, Lagosians, for the timely information. Together, we can overcome insecurity,” he said.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. “If you see something, say something. Security is everyone’s business!”
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to apprehend the escaped suspect.
