Lagos pushes 132KV project to boost Ibeju Lekki power supply

The Lagos State Government says work is advancing on a major 132kV transmission project linking the Ajah Power Substation to Eleko Junction, as part of efforts to address persistent electricity shortages in Ibeju-Lekki and adjoining communities.
The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, disclosed this at a stakeholders’ dialogue convened by the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Sesan Olowa, to address longstanding power supply challenges in the area.
Ogunleye said the contractor had been mobilised for the project through collaboration between the state and Federal Government, adding that the infrastructure would expand electricity transmission capacity across Ibeju-Lekki, Akodo, Eleko and surrounding communities.
He said the project would complement existing and planned power generation and gas infrastructure, while ongoing reforms involving the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Lagos State Independent System Operator would support the development of the state’s electricity market.
Ogunleye assured stakeholders that the government would explore measures to minimise disruption while ensuring the infrastructure is delivered.
The member of the House of Representatives representing Ibeju-Lekki, Bayo Balogun, called for stronger cooperation among the Federal, state and local governments, electricity institutions and host communities.
Balogun also urged the local government to establish a committee to coordinate interventions and address concerns arising from the project.
Meanwhile, Olowa reaffirmed the council’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to improve electricity supply and support the area’s growing residential and industrial activities.
At the meeting, stakeholders reviewed the proposed right-of-way alignment from Ajah to Eleko Junction, including sections around Abraham Adesanya, Lagos Business School, Shongunle/Shoprite and Abijo.
