Lagos Speaker urges radio broadcasters to intensify awareness on climate change

The Speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Rt. (Hon) Mojisola Lasbat Meranda,  has called on Radio broadcasters to keep the spirit of enlightening and educating the public on Climate Change

WESTERN POST reports that the world marks the International Radio Day on Thursday.

Congratulating Radio Broadcasters across the world, the Speaker highlighted the immeasurable and courageous contributions of radio to advancing diversity, safeguarding freedom of expression, and ensuring equitable access to information for all.

Meranda, who noted the theme for World Radio Day 2025, “Radio and Climate Change”, explained that this year’s theme will assist radio stations in their coverage of critical problem.

She urged that robust engagements in talk shows and news items be given to Climate change.

Meranda added “Today, I join the global community in celebrating World Radio Day! This year’s theme, Radio and Climate Change, highlights the vital role that radio plays in raising awareness and inspiring action on one of the most urgent issues of our time.

“Radio remains a powerful tool for education, communication, and advocacy, especially in times of crisis. In Lagos, we recognize the importance of using this medium to share vital information on climate change and its impact on our environment, health, and future.

” As the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, I am proud to support efforts to strengthen environmental awareness and promote sustainable practices. Together, through partnerships with media outlets, we can amplify messages on climate action, environmental conservation, and community resilience.
