Lagos State Cooperative College holds second convocation

Lagos State Cooperative College, Oko-Oba, will hold its second convocation from Monday, May 12 to Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The Provost, Mr. Akorede Ojomu, announced this at a pre-convocation news conference held on Friday at the college premises in Agege.

Ojomu said the convocation aligns with the state’s THEMES Plus Agenda and will contribute to manpower development and socio-economic growth. He revealed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will inaugurate a new academic building during the three-day ceremony to accommodate growing student enrollment.

“These graduates represent the fruits of our commitment to quality, employability, and entrepreneurship,” Ojomu stated. He noted the students acquired both academic qualifications and vocational skills through collaboration with the Lagos State Women Development Centre.

The convocation will begin on Monday, May 12, with a lecture titled “Cooperative Management: The development and transformation of Nano enterprises in Lagos State, to be delivered by Dr. Olusegun Dada. Tuesday will feature the Alumni and Students Engagement Programme, while the main convocation ceremony on Wednesday will include diploma awards, fellowship conferment, and the unveiling of the new academic building.

Highlighting the college’s efforts to tackle unemployment, Ojomu spoke about the newly launched Premium 9-Month Technical Training Programme. It includes a 3-month industry-based attachment and follows the City & Guilds of London Institute curriculum, ensuring global certification standards.

The programme currently runs courses in electrical installation and maintenance, plumbing and pipefitting, and welding and fabrication.

Ojomu, whose tenure ends in a few weeks, described the event as personally significant. “I thank Almighty God for granting me the grace to serve with honour, integrity, and purpose,” he said, expressing gratitude to the governor, his family, and the college community.

The convocation will see graduates awarded Diplomas in Microfinance and Enterprise Development, Cooperative Economics and Management, as well as Professional Diplomas in Economics and Management.
