Lagos State Sports Commission seeks global expertise to grow cycling culture

The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has taken a major step to boost cycling and strengthen sports development in the state through a strategic partnership with British Cycling.
The collaboration is aimed at leveraging global expertise to enhance technical skills and promote a cycling culture in Lagos.
A delegation from British Cycling, led by Ms. Amy Gardner, Sport and Participation Director, visited the Commission to discuss areas of cooperation, with a focus on knowledge exchange, skill transfer, and building technical capacity within the state.
Speaking during the visit, the Director General of LSSC, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, described the engagement as an outcome-driven initiative within Lagos State’s broader sports development strategy.
He credited the supportive policy environment and institutional backing from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration for enabling Lagos to pursue credible international partnerships and excellence across the sports value chain.
Ms. Gardner praised the Commission’s openness to collaboration, noting that British Cycling seeks partnerships that encourage shared learning, commercial opportunities, and sustainable development.
“We are impressed by the ambition and clarity of purpose shown by the Lagos State Sports Commission,” she said.
The partnership is expected to strengthen technical expertise, enhance sports programmes, and elevate cycling as a mainstream sport in Lagos.
