Lagos to install 50,000 street lights for better security, says Sanwo-Olu

By Adeola Ogunrinde –
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has disclosed that his administration is installing 50,000 street lights across Lagos to strengthen security in the state.
The governor stated this on Monday during a live conversation on Journalists’ Hangout, where he spoke to journalists and Lagos residents on the performance of his administration since assuming office as Executive Governor of Lagos State.
Sanwo-Olu said the street light project is part of broader efforts to improve safety across the metropolis, noting that the government is also providing additional vehicles to security agencies.
“We are installing 50,000 street lights in Lagos. We are lighting up everywhere,” he said, adding that security has also been reinforced along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He further stated that his administration has deployed 2,000 cameras across the city and will respond swiftly to any form of security challenge.
Speaking on Detty December, Sanwo-Olu described the period as a time for Lagosians and visitors to come together during the yuletide season and enjoy the city.
“Lagos is very hospitable. We are hoping that in the next two or three weeks, people can feel the city. That is why it is called Detty December,” he said.
The governor also disclosed that the second phase of the Blue Line rail project is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2027, noting that over seven million passengers have been transported since the service commenced.
Sanwo-Olu concluded by saying that increased revenue allocations to states under the Tinubu administration have led to socio-economic improvements, with leakages blocked and revenues better accounted for.
