Lagos to reintroduce monthly environmental sanitation

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the return of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, recently announced the decision, noting that the State Executive Council has also endorsed the reintroduction.

Wahab stated that the sanitation exercise would commence in July, with an official announcement from the governor expected soon.

In a 21-second clip shared on the Lagos State Environmental Update page on X, Wahab said in Yoruba, “Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the state executive council have approved the re-introduction of the monthly sanitation. The governor will announce it officially for the exercise to commence this month.”

The monthly environmental sanitation, previously held on the last Saturday of every month with movement restrictions for three hours, was discontinued in 2016 to allow for necessary reforms.

The reintroduction aims to enhance environmental cleanliness and public health in the state.
