Lagos to supply 70 million gallons of pipe-borne water daily – Omotoso

The Lagos State Government has assured residents that plans are underway to supply 70 million gallons of pipe-borne water daily. This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, during the “Citizen Engagement Forum” held on Friday at Alausa, Ikeja.

Omotoso revealed that the government, despite challenges, is addressing the issue head-on. An agreement has been signed with the Ogun State Government, which owns the Adiyan Water Reservoir, to supply water to Lagos residents. He added that Lagos has paid N600 million to Ogun State for the anticipated water supply.

On the health sector, Omotoso announced the imminent commissioning of a new general hospital in Ojo Local Government Area, marking the first general hospital built by the state in over a decade. He described it as one of the most advanced facilities in the state.

in addition, a 500-bed health center is being built in Ikosi Ejinrin, while the Massey Children’s Hospital in Lagos Island is under construction. Omotoso stated that the Massey facility will be the best in sub-Saharan Africa, featuring cutting-edge technology to reduce infant mortality and improve maternal healthcare.

He also highlighted the construction of a Mental Health Centre in Epe, addressing the rising need for mental health services due to socio-economic pressures.

Omotoso emphasized the government’s commitment to improving transportation through investments in water, rail, and road networks.

Rail: The launch of the Blue Line and the imminent Red Line have significantly eased commuting in the state.

Water: Ten additional ferries will soon be commissioned, bringing the total to 25, with 16 new jetties set for commissioning in areas like Ibeshe, Ilashe, and Liverpool.

Roads: The government continues to construct and rehabilitate road networks to improve mobility across Lagos.

He also disclosed plans for an international airport in Lekki to reduce pressure on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Omotoso confirmed that all necessary agreements for the Lekki airport project have been finalized.

To cut costs and enhance sustainability, the state government has shifted from generator-powered streetlights to solar-powered systems. Over 2,000 solar streetlights have already been installed, reducing expenses and boosting energy efficiency.

Omotoso concluded by reiterating the administration’s dedication to improving the quality of life for all Lagosians through infrastructural development and sustainable initiatives.
