LAMATA, stakeholders align on implementation of Green Line Rail Project

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has convened an advocacy meeting with ministries and key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration on the implementation of the Green Line Rail Project.

The meeting, held on Tuesday in Lagos, was aimed at fostering inter-ministerial cooperation and establishing a unified front for public communication and project execution.

In attendance were high-ranking government officials including the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Abiodun Oluyinka Olumide, and the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye. Representatives from the Ministries of Works and Infrastructure, Transportation, Environment and Water Resources, and Information also participated, alongside the Lands Bureau, Lekki Concession Company (LCC), China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), and Global Impact.

LAMATA’s Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, stressed the importance of a coordinated approach in engaging the public on the project. She noted that synergy among stakeholders would enable better communication of design details, assessment of potential impacts, and mitigation of challenges within and beyond the project’s right-of-way.

She further urged participants to maintain unity of purpose in ensuring the successful delivery of the rail project, describing it as critical to the economic growth and prosperity of Lagos State.

The Green Line Rail Project, backed by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, will span 68 kilometers with 17 stations, running from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

According to LAMATA, the project will be executed in phases and is expected to significantly ease mobility while boosting trade and investment opportunities across the state.
