LASG debunks rumors of Sanwo-Olu suing EFCC over alleged post-tenure probe

The Lagos State Government has officially refuted claims circulating in certain media outlets that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has filed a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged plan to investigate or prosecute him following his tenure.

The rebuttal, signed by Lawal Pedro, SAN, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State, clarified that the governor has neither initiated nor authorized any legal action on this matter.

“The governor, who is protected by constitutional immunity and still has nearly three years in office, has no reason to file such a suit or retain legal counsel for it,” Pedro stated.

He further emphasized that to his knowledge, the EFCC has not opened any investigation involving Governor Sanwo-Olu, nor has it summoned him or any member of his administration.

The Attorney General disclosed that an inquiry is underway to understand how the rumored lawsuit surfaced without the government’s awareness.

He described Governor Sanwo-Olu as a model of “prudent and judicious management of public resources” and assured Lagos residents that the governor remains focused on his duties to improve their quality of life.

The Lagos State Government urged media outlets to verify reports before publication to avoid spreading misinformation and misleading the public.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s tenure is set to conclude in May 2027.
