Lagos State Government has promised to continue to promote tourism related innovations, support cultural emancipation and nurture the dreams of every innovative youth such that the State will remain a beacon of creativity, excellence, and unity.
The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe made this promise during the commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the London to Lagos groundbreaking solo road trip embarked upon by Pelumi Nubi, a travel content creator and Tourism Ambassador.
Aregbe said, “This celebration is not just about Pelumi’s remarkable journey; it is a testament to the visionary leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who continues to invest in young people and creative industries. Under his administration, we are witnessing an era where innovation, cultural pride, and youth empowerment are at the forefront of governance. Pelumi’s story represents what is possible when government support meets individual passion. We must support each other’s culture and nurture the dreams of our young people. Pelumi’s journey is a symbol of inspiration, especially for the next generation. Lagos is not just a city but also a cultural centre for youth development, mentorship growth. Through initiatives like this, we are reminded that we all share in the dream of making Lagos a beacon of creativity, excellence, and unity”.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, commended Pelumi’s courage and visionary determination, emphasising the broader impact of her journey on national and global tourism narratives. He praised her for not only completing a bold personal mission but for contributing to the evolving image of Nigeria on the international stage.
Pelumi Nubi, who gained international acclaim for her solo journey, expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support she received from the Lagos State Government and the residents.
She formally launched her book and premiered the pilot episode of One Week In, a travel show designed to document and showcase the richness of Africa’s diverse cultures.
Nubi also spoke candidly about the emotional journey behind her travels, including moments of personal growth, reconciling with family, and dealing with online criticism.
