The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to showcasing the state as a hub of resilience, opportunity, and enterprise, as global attention turns to its waterways during the upcoming E1 Lagos GP, scheduled to hold from October 3 to 5 in Victoria Island.
Speaking at the E1 Lagos GP Immersion Session held at the LASWA Boat Jetty, Falomo, Ikoyi, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, described Lagos as a dynamic city of strength and innovation that continually reinvents itself to attract global attention.
Omotoso noted that the E1 Lagos GP is not just another sporting event but a scientific showcase of precision, sustainability, and innovation. He added that the excitement around the event underscores Lagos’ growing reputation as a centre of creativity and future-facing development.
“This is more than putting race boats on the water,” the Commissioner said. “Everything about it requires science, careful planning, and accuracy. It is serious business for Lagos. It’s about sustainability, creativity, and responsibility. Lagos is indeed the city of now and the city of the future.”
He also urged residents to take ownership of their environment, especially in light of the global attention the city will receive. “The environment is the only thing we can leave behind for future generations. We must keep our lagoons clean. Visitors are coming, and they must see that Lagos values sustainability,” he added.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Mr. Sam Egube, also spoke at the session, highlighting the global importance of the E1 Lagos GP. He noted that Lagos is emerging as Africa’s hub for technology, culture, and enterprise, and the event presents a unique opportunity to position the city as a destination for innovation and cultural diplomacy.
Egube, who also serves as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasized that beyond the racing competition, the city is showcasing its readiness to host world-class experiences and strengthen its international profile.
Also present was the General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who assured stakeholders that all necessary measures are being implemented to ensure safety and smooth operations. He confirmed that the Navy, Marine Police, and other security agencies have been fully mobilised to manage traffic and security on the waterways during the event.
