LASTMA dislodges illegal tankers parking around Dangote refinery, Lekki free trade zone

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dislodged illegal tankers parking around the Dangote Refinery and the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

The move was aimed at averting traffic disruptions and ensuring smooth vehicular movement in the areas.

The operation was described as a proactive step to maintain unimpeded access for trucks entering and exiting the Dangote Refinery, while also safeguarding traffic flow along the Lekki-Ajah corridor.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, who oversaw the exercise, reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy for indiscriminate parking.

He emphasized that parking violations, particularly around the Dangote Refinery, the Lekki Free Trade Zone, and the Lekki-Ajah Expressway, would no longer be tolerated.

In addition to the actions in Lekki, LASTMA removed 120 vehicles, including private cars and commercial buses, that were illegally parked on bridges between Ebute-Ero and Ejalonibu on Lagos Island.

“It is disheartening that despite repeated warnings, these vehicles continue to use bridges as unauthorized parking spaces,” Hon. Giwa said.

“This enforcement exercise is a clear message that we will not condone such infractions”, he added.

He also highlighted the government’s commitment to sustained surveillance in these areas. Measures include the recently introduced ‘Eto’ system, designed to regulate the movement of trucks at the Dangote Refinery, and the establishment of a dedicated Traffic Monitoring Zone (TMZ) in Lekki to oversee vehicular operations.

“All impounded vehicles, including tankers, private cars, and commercial buses, will face the Lagos State Mobile Courts. This serves as both a punitive measure and a deterrent to others,” Giwa added.
