LASTMA rescues 1,075 persons from road accidents in 2024

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has said it rescued 1,075 individuals from road traffic accidents in 2024.
The Agency also disclosed that it handled a total of 2,051 road traffic incidents involving 3,754 vehicles.
According to the 2024 achievements record of the Agency, the incidents were categorized into 143 fatal accidents, 502 severe cases, and 1,406 minor accidents, showcasing LASTMA’s ability to promptly respond to emergencies.
Buttressing this records, the Agency in a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, on Friday, highlighted its commitment to saving lives, reducing road traffic accidents, and ensuring smoother traffic flow across Lagos State.
It emphasized its critical role in reducing fatalities and mitigating the impact of road mishaps.
“In addition to accident management, LASTMA resolved 5,108 cases of vehicle breakdowns in 2024, a testament to its operational efficiency. The breakdowns included 423 cars, 746 buses, 219 SUVs, 1,649 trucks, 400 tankers, 535 trailers, and 1,118 other vehicles.
“To further enhance public engagement, LASTMA launched a toll-free hotline (080000527862), enabling residents to report traffic obstructions, breakdowns, emergencies, and even provide feedback on the conduct of LASTMA officials. The hotline received 3,567 calls in multiple languages, including English, Pidgin, and Yoruba. Of these, over 3,450 cases were promptly resolved, while 117 were escalated for further attention.
“The agency also inaugurated a Physical Complaint Centre (PCC), which recorded 2,056 complaints in 2024. Of these, 1,968 cases were successfully addressed, while 88 required advanced resolution”, said Taofiq.
Speaking on the achievements, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed gratitude to Lagosians, particularly motorists, for their cooperation.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology and enhancing personnel capacity to ensure safer roads and an efficient traffic management system.
“These milestones reflect our unwavering dedication to excellence and our mission to foster safer roads across Lagos State,” he stated.
LASTMA assured the public of its continued efforts to improve service delivery and respond swiftly to emergencies, further cementing its reputation as a reliable and citizen-focused institution.
