LASTMA warns motorists against indiscriminate parking at filling stations
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned motorists who are queuing for fuel at various filling stations, leading to severe traffic congestion for other road users.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, gave the warning on Sunday.
He added that the agency had deployed additional officers to monitor traffic around fuel stations across the State.
Bakare-Oki explained that the increased deployment is necessary due to reports of long queues at filling stations caused by motorists who park indiscriminately, blocking roads as they wait to purchase fuel.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the chaotic behavior of some drivers, who queue carelessly and disrupt the smooth flow of traffic around petrol stations.
“The current fuel scarcity is not an excuse to obstruct and disrupt traffic in Lagos,” Bakare-Oki stated.
He emphasized, “We want our roads to be free-flowing; fuel queues should not become a burden for other road users in Lagos.”
Bakare-Oki reiterated that effective traffic management is essential for achieving a seamless multi-modal transportation system in Lagos.
He further urged the public, particularly motorists, to make use of LASTMA’s newly inaugurated toll-free call center at 080000527862 for complaints, comments, and commendations (C.C.C.).
