The Lagos State University (LASU) has condemned the assault of one of its students by fellow students following the circulation of a video of the incident on social media.
LASU said the incident involved students of its College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, but occurred at a privately owned hostel located outside the university’s campus.
According to LASU, the assaulted student reported the matter to the police, and law enforcement authorities have commenced action on the case. The university has also initiated its internal disciplinary process in accordance with its regulations.
The management described the incident as unacceptable, stressing that assault, intimidation and harassment of students, staff or visitors contravene the institution’s core values, regardless of whether they occur within or outside its premises.
LASU urged students to conduct themselves responsibly, avoid situations that could compromise their safety and promptly report any concerns to the appropriate authorities.
The university also appealed to parents to engage constructively with the institution and encourage their wards to uphold discipline and integrity.
LASU reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its students, as well as its resolve to maintain a secure and conducive environment for learning.
