In anticipation of the impending rainy season, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has announced the successful completion of the rehabilitation of Olusosun dumpsite.

The agency added that the effort aimed to ensure smooth waste disposal operations throughout the state, particularly during adverse weather conditions.

Disclosing this on Thursday, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, emphasized that the rehabilitation was geared towards enhancing operational efficiency, enabling waste disposal trucks to navigate the dumpsite seamlessly, even in heavy rainfall.

He added that the initiative is expected to significantly reduce queue times and improve turnaround times for waste collection services.

Highlighting the importance of responsible waste disposal practices, Dr. Gbadegesin urged residents to refrain from dumping waste in drains, especially during the rainy season, which often leads to drainage system disruptions and environmental hazards.

He reiterated the significance of patronizing accredited waste disposal operators and encouraged residents to engage with their designated Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators for efficient waste management at the local level.

According to LAWMA, its commitment extends beyond operational enhancements, as it seeks to empower residents by providing detailed PSP contacts for all areas in the state.

It added that the initiative would foster community involvement in waste management practices, ultimately contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment for all Lagosians.
