President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to appoint Mallam Shehu Dikko, former vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) has received widespread commendation from Nigerians.
On Wednesday, October 23, President Tinubu announced the dissolution of the Ministry of Sports Development, replacing it with the NSC, and appointed Dikko as its chairman.
The latest support came from the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, which praised the president’s decision.
While congratulating Dikko on his appointment, the committee expressed approval of the president’s choice.
According to the Chairman of the committee, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, Dikko’s appointment is timely, and the president has selected the right person for the role.
“Both the establishment of the Sports Commission and the appointment of Dikko align with the House Committee on Sports’ blueprint to have technocrats managing Nigerian sports,” Amadu said.
“From the House of Representatives, we see this as a significant step in the right direction to elevate our sports to a competitive level among the sporting nations of the world.”
He continued, “Mallam Dikko is a dedicated sports professional whose expertise in the field is unquestionable. We believe he is more than capable of advancing Nigerian sports to new heights.”
Honourable Amadu, who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, further noted that the appointment is a call to duty and urged Dikko to apply his extensive experience to revitalize Nigerian sports.
